Things Do Get Better
Chapter 12
"Finally! School's over!" I met Heidi, Lacey, and Taisia on the bus. "We're finally free!" said Taisia when I sat down. "Oh, I know! It's about time too." I replied. "Now we can go guy hunting all day," said Lacey. "That sounds good to me," said Heidi. We continued to talk about what we should do this summer.
The bus pulled up to my stop and we got off. "Wow. There's some pretty big houses here," said Taisia, looking at all the houses. "Which one's yours?" asked Lacey. "About a block down the street," I answered. "You must be rich," said Heidi. "Why do you say that?" I asked, a little surprised by her comment. "Well, duh!" said Lacey. "You live in, like, the richest part of the neighborhood." "Yeah. Our houses aren't this big," said Heidi. "Just cuz I live in a big house doesn't mean I'm rich," I said. We walked up the sidewalk to my house. "Wow. This is a pretty house," said Taisia.
I opened the door and we walked in. "You guys can put your stuff up in my room," I said, starting my way up the stairs. They followed me, looking around in amazement. "Wonder if anyone's home?" I thought. We walked into my room and they put their stuff down. "Hey Katie! You home already?" someone yelled from downstairs. "That answers my question." "Yeah!" I yelled back. I looked over at Heidi, Taisia, and Lacey. They looked a little confused. "We're down in the den in case you're wondering'!" he yelled. "OK!" I yelled back. "What?" I asked the 3 girls giving me confused looks. "I swear to god I've heard that voice before," said Taisia. "You better know that was Joey, Taisia." I thought. "Oh," I said. "Yeah. I recognize that voice too," said Heidi. "Me too," said Lacey. They all exchanged confused glances. "C'mon," I said, heading out my bedroom door. We went down to the den.
As we walked in, I looked at the girls. Their mouths dropped open as they saw who was in the room. I just shook my head as I turned to *NSYNC. "Guys, these are my friends, Lacey, Taisia, and Heidi," I said. "Hi!" they all said to them, waving. My friends just stood there. I couldn't help, but laugh at the way they were looking at the guys. I sighed and said, "Hello! Wake up! They said hi to you 3." "Oh, umm…hi," Lacey managed to say. She was staring straight at JC. "Hi!" Taisia and Heidi said finally. Taisia was looking at Joey and Heidi started to drool while looking at Justin. I put my hands over my face and shook my head. "Well, at least we know they can talk," said Chris. The guys laughed. I went and stood in front of my friends. "You 3 gonna be OK? Or do I have to call 911 or something in case you hyperventilate?" I asked. "Oh, ha ha ha. Very funny," said Taisia, finally snapping out of her trance. Heidi and Lacey finally came out of it too. "Katie, can we talk to you?" asked Lacey. The 3 had grabbed me and pulled me upstairs to my room before I could answer.
"Oh my god! Katie!" said Lacey. "What?!" "Why didn't you tell us you lived with *NSYNC?!" she asked. The 3 of them all looked at me waiting for an answer. "Well… number 1, I only live with Lance and Joey. The others live in a different house down the street." "You live with Joey?! I'm moving in with you!" said Taisia. "Number 2, you guys never asked," I said. "Why should we have to ask?" asked Heidi. "I dunno. I just needed an excuse," I replied. "It just never came up that's all." "I think I wanna spend our vacation here," said Lacey. "I figured you'd say that," I said. "So, how'd you end up living with them?" asked Heidi. I looked at her, then at Lacey and Taisia. They really wanted to know. I could tell by their expressions. "Well…it's kind of a long story," I said. "We've got time. C'mon, tell us," said Lacey. I sighed. "OK. Fine," I replied. "I guess it's about time I tell them anyway. Better now then never," I thought.
