Things Do Get Better
Chapter 10
I woke up early the next morning. I rolled over and looked at the clock. 5:41am. I groaned. I sat up and leaned against the wall. "Why am I awake so early?" I asked myself. I looked over at the other bed and saw Lance sleeping peacefully. I got up to look at the window. I opened up the curtain a little bit. The message was gone. "Am I going crazy? Did I image it?" I thought. I looked more closely at the window. I saw a little bit of red paint. "Someone must have cleaned it up. Oh well. Hopefully Lance didn't see it." I decided to go shower. So, I went and grabbed a pair of jeans and a green Old Navy shirt out of my bag. "I hope Lance won't be waken cuz of the shower noise," I thought. I went into the bathroom and took a 10-minute shower. I got dressed and walked out of the bathroom to put my clothes in my bag. I looked over at Lance. He was still sleeping. "Good. At least I didn't wake him," I thought. I brushed my short blond hair and put on my make-up. I looked at the clock. It was 6:05. I decided to go down to the lobby to see if they were serving breakfast. I grabbed the extra hotel key and left. I locked the door and looked at the room number. "307. Better not forget that." I walked down to the lobby. There were doughnuts and orange juice or coffee. I grabbed a couple of doughnuts and an orange juice and sat down at a small table. I ate quietly as I watched people check out. I looked at the clock on the wall. 6:37. I finished eating and walked back up to the room. I opened the door and Lance was just getting up. "Where'd you go?" he asked, confused. "I went down to the lobby and got something to eat," I said as I closed the door. "Oh, OK." Someone knocked at the door. It startled me a little since I was still standing in front of it. I turned around and opened the door. JC and Justin were standing there. "Hey!" they said. "Hi guys," I said. I opened the door wider so they could come in. "We need to leave for the airport around 7:30," said JC as he entered the room. "That gives me plenty of time to take a shower," said Lance. He grabbed his stuff and walked into the bathroom. "You wanna go get something to eat with us?" asked Justin. "No. I already ate." "You did? When?" he asked, a little confused. This morning, about 6. I went down to the lobby." "Oh, OK. That works," he said. Just then there was a knock at the door. JC answered it and Joey and Chris came in with breakfast. The four of them started eating and I went over and sat on the bed. Lance had came out of the bathroom and joined the others. "Hey, Katie," said Joey. "What?" "You're not gonna mind if you live with me and Lance, are ya?" "No. That's fine. Where ever you think is best." "OK. Cool. A girl roommate," he said, jokingly. I just smiled and shook my head. "You'll live. He really isn't that bad," said Justin. "OK. But, if I don't live, I get to blame you," I said. "Why me?" he asked. "Cuz you said that I'll live." "Oh. I guess that's a good reason." "Well, it'll have to be," I said. A little while later we were on our way to the airport. When we got there, we were able to board the plane almost right away. I was finally on my way to a new life.
